Apprenticeship as a springboard: from service technician to team leader
Jürgen Sallaberger has been a dedicated Scheuch employee for 12 years now. His career started as an apprentice and he worked his way up to team leader, which shows the wide range of development opportunities in the company.
In this interview, Jürgen talks of his career path and his highlights at Scheuch up to now.
Can you tell us a little about your career path?
Over the 3.5 years of my apprenticeship as an electrician with a focus on system engineering, I was fortunate to experience a diverse apprenticeship. In the third year of my apprenticeship, I moved to Mehrnbach when Scheuch LIGNO GmbH was founded. After completing my apprenticeship, I was able to prove myself in electrical engineering as a PLC programmer. Three years later, I moved to customer service as a service technician, where I gained a great deal of exciting experience during service work in countries such as France, Croatia and Italy. After four years in assembly, I got the opportunity of taking over as team leader for customer service, which I accepted gladly.
Can you describe a typical working day?
A typical working day starts with distributing the tasks to my employees in order to ensure that everyone knows exactly which projects and jobs are coming up that day. I then take care of the fault clearing service, where I react to customer queries directly and find solutions to problems as quickly as possible. Another important part of my work is scheduling and distributing the construction sites in order to guarantee that our projects run as smoothly as possible. Construction site visits are also a regular part of my day, in order to monitor progress on-site and to support my colleagues. Now and then, I am available on the phone for queries and to provide assistance. Finally, I prepare the construction sites for the coming week by collating all required information.
What were your highlights at Scheuch up to now?
My greatest successes include firstly rising from apprentice to team leader and secondly, commissioning large projects totalling more than 2.5 million euro successfully. The greatest challenge was definitely going from service technician to team leader and the associated new tasks and added responsibility. However, I was always supported by my supervisors and have never regretted taking that step.
What helps you to relax after work?
A quiet fishing weekend by the lake or river always helps me to relax and restore my energy.
