Scheuch invited to exchange ideas for CO2 project

Results from the pioneering Austrian CO2 conversion project were presented and the next steps worked out at the expert meeting.

On 23 September, leading representatives of the ‘Direct Carbon Capture and Electrolysis’ (directCCE) research project met at Scheuch, a leading international environmental technology company, in Aurolzmünster. The meeting focussed on discussing the progress of the current work packages and planning the next steps and milestones. In addition, the participants were given an exciting insight into the Scheuch Group's technologies and developments for gas pre-purification and CO2 capture during a tour of the plant.

About the direct_CCE project

The directCCE research project, coordinated by the Vienna University of Technology, aims to develop a new type of technology for the direct conversion of CO2-rich flue gas from combustion plants into climate-neutral hydrocarbons. Through a combination of CO2 capture and electrocatalytic conversion, an innovative approach is to be demonstrated that enables the sustainable utilisation of CO2 as a raw material. Scheuch was chosen for the project due to its experience and expertise in the field of flue gas cleaning. As a consortium partner, the company plays a key role in the development and implementation of CO2 capture technology, which is of central importance in the energy-intensive industry for achieving climate neutrality.

The project is funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) as part of the ‘Vorzeigeregion Energie’ call for proposals and is part of the NEFI (New Energy for Industry) innovation network.

Working together for a sustainable industry

The consortium meeting at Scheuch was an important milestone in the directCCE project, which not only drives technological innovation but also paves the way for sustainable industrial processes in Austria. The exchange between the partners illustrates the commitment of the participating companies and institutions to developing innovative solutions for climate protection and driving forward the decarbonisation of industry.
